A Victorian Sterling Silver Target brooch linked with fine silver chains to two Victorian sterling silver maple leaf brooches. Made to be pinned on either lapel of a jacket, or both sides together on a jumper or shirt.
Wearing the brooch at the neck with a high collar was one of the hallmarks of Victorian fashion, especially from the 1860’s onwards. These Target brooches were designed to copy the style of jewellery being excavated from Etruscan and Viking sites during that century.
The concept of a target, with a central bullseye and radiating concentric circles, originated from the pattern of the cross-section of a tree trunk and was incorporated into many sports as well as jewellery design
Flew Designs is the brand founded by local Melbourne-based jeweler and sculptor, Susie Lewis.
