The journey of mechanical pencils began in 1565 with a simple lead-holder, evolving to the first truly mechanical pencil patented in 1822 in England. This twist mechanism was a space-saving marvel, often found on Chatelaines, which women of the house wore, containing essential tools from sewing needles to house keys. The twist mechanism ingeniously fed half the pencil out with the lead, making these instruments compact and efficient.

Over time, the brass will naturally tarnish, adding to its antique allure. To restore its original shine, use Brasso and a toothbrush for gentle cleaning.
