An Antique sterling silver ornate Victorian Vesta box is elegantly hung on a complex sterling silver fob watch chain, creating a long necklace. The original engraving and hallmarks are still visible, and the tarnished back adds a beautiful two-tone colour to this unique piece.

Vesta boxes were widely produced between 1890 and 1920, during which almost everyone carried "strike anywhere" matches to light stoves, lanterns, and other devices. Early matches were unreliable and prone to spontaneous ignition, so most people carried a match safe (Vesta box) to house their matches, either in a vest pocket or on a chatelaine.
